Valkyro

My narrative experimental electronic music project.

The underlying plot follows the thoughts and experiences of a mysterious individual who has found himself in a dystopian foreign world where music has been eradicated by a domineering regime.

Outside of Valkyro, I branch out into different genres and compose/produce music for visual/interactive media.

In addition to doing the sound design, I wrote the music for the animation Fish Don’t Get Thirsty by Meghan Horwitz. For this piece, I had to keep in mind while composing that there were to be quick transitions in tone from light and whimsical to somber synced to the picture.

Executioner // Reclaimer is a piece I created to represent characteristics of what music could sound like 100 years in the future. Rationales included combining synthesis with organic acoustic improvisation, short length + progressive structure to signify impatience, and modulation of key/time signatures for mood shifting.

Infected Affection is a short piece I composed for sound replacement in the free Unity project "Survival Shooter".

In the summer of 2018, I was part of a small team developing a visual novel style game (unreleased). This is a sample from that project including the Main Menu music (with contribution from my peer Phillip Lu) and a theme for a character named Yu. This character was described to me as cool and apathetic, as well as being a bassist/music producer (channeling elements from vaporwave, hip-hop, EDM). I sought to incorporate these into the theme.

In 2017 I participated in a composition exercise contest hosted by Scorbit. The premise was to create a 3-layer, 30-second looping piece based on concept art. The idea was that different layers would be triggered by in-game events, so any combination of the layers should work together. This sample begins with layer 1 and ascends in intensity up through layer 3.

In 2017, I was commissioned to write a short, jazzy piece to sync to an animation project by artist/animator Meghan Horwitz.
